Martin Gilbert: Friend of Trump who built a fund management empire
Episode 14 of the 'Can I ask you a personal question?' podcast
Hello there.
Today marks the release of the 14th episode (episode 4, series 2) of the ‘Can I ask you a personal question?’ podcast.
This week we speak to Martin Gilbert, the co-founder and long-standing CEO of Aberdeen Asset Management.
As regular listeners will know, one of our trademark questions for guests is: Do you prefer Donald Trump or Boris Johnson?
Martin is our first interviewee to answer: “Both!” It turns out he is an old golfing chum of the outgoing US president.
As I note at the end of the episode, Martin is very good at not answering questions (in an endearing way).
Does he prefer Keith Skeoch (his former co-CEO at Standard Life Aberdeen) or Sir Douglas Flint (his former chairman at Standard Life Aberdeen)? “I like them both!”
What is his greatest fear? “I don’t fear failure!”
Martin also tells us who has replaced Eminem as his favourite musician and speaks about the most embarrassing thing he’s done in a meeting.
Enjoy! And please, as ever, consider leaving us a review or rating on Apple Podcasts.
